ولا يُخفى على أحدٍ ما تتمتَّع به الهندُ من مكانةٍ تاريخيّةٍ وحضاريّة وثقافيّة مُتميِّزة بين شعوب العالم كافة، فهي مهدّ لعددٍ من الديانات القديمة التي نشأت وترَعرَعَت في أحضانها أمثال الهندوسيّة والبوذيّة والجينيّة والسيخيَّة، كما أنّ كلاًّ من المسيحيّة والإسلام وجد فيها أرضاً خصبّة.
