يعرض هذا الكتاب المعرفة بأسلوب جديد يجمع بين الخيال والواقعية. فالفصل الأول والثاني يقدمان إطاراً نظرياً حول كتب الأطفال المعلوماتية المصورة ومواصفتها وأنواعها، ومدى أهميتها. أما باقي الفصول من الثالث إلى التاسع فيصنف أنواع كتب الأطفال المعلوماتية، فكل فصل يعرض فئة من تلك الكتب، مع توثيق لكل كتاب ونبذة مختصرة عنه، والجوائز التي حصل عليها ، ومدى أهميته للقارىء والمستمع، كما أضفت لهذا الوصف بعض الصفحات المصورة من كل كتاب أو قصة أو حتى أعطى للقارىء العربي فكرة أكبر عما يقرأ. فتلك الكتب أغلبها غير معروف بالنسبة لنا، رغم أهميتها، كما أضفت بعض المعلومات بالهوامش عن الأشياء أو الموضوعات أو الأشخاص أو الأماكن والحيوانات الواردة في كل كتاب، كلما دعت الحاجة إلى ذلك، حتى تكتمل الفكرة . والهدف من هذا الإستعراض أيضاً هو تقديم أفكار جديدة عن كتب الأطفال والحيوانات الواردة في كل كتاب، وما الجديد، وما الذي يجب أن يعرفه الأطفال، كما يجب أن يحدث تواصل في مجال الكتابة للأطفال على المستوى العلمي. فضلاً عن الجوائز التي تمنح لكتب الأطفال، والمؤلفين والرسامين، ما أسماءها، وما معاييرها. هذا الكتاب يقدم الجديد في مجال أدب وثقافة الطفل أمل أن يستفيد منه القراء والكتاب والمعلمين والطلبة.
