تقلبت هناء في فراشها من جانب إلى آخر في تململ تحتضن وسادة ثم تتركها لتتحسس أخرى، وبعين شبه مفتوحة أخذت تجول بنظرها في أرجاء الغرفة التي يلفها الظلام الدامس فلاحظت دخول شعاع صباح خافت تسلل من شق إحدى الستائر المنسدلة بإحكام، عندئذ تنبهت أنه يتوجب عليها معرفة الوقت، وفي تكاسل وزهق مدت يدها ازاء المنبه الموجود على الكومودينو الملاصق لسريرها وقبل أن تطاله يدها أخذ يئن ويرن ويعلو صوت رنينه في عويل وصراخ أخذت تستمع له للحظات وكأنها تستمتع بصوته وأحست طوال هذه الفترة بارتياح شديد وكأن صراخه المتواصل قد قام بما لا تستطيع فعله..
