شجرة جوافة فقط هى التى تبقت من مجموعة أشجار كانت تحيط بمنزل الكاتبة الصحفية مى عزام. ذهبت وحل محلها الأسمنت لكن غيابها لم يمح الذكرى بل استدعى طعماً خاصاً فى النفس سمته الكاتبة «طعم البيوت»، وكان عنواناً لكتاب صدر لها عن «دار العلوم». فالبيوت، حسب المؤلفة، «ليست مجرد أربعة حيطان تؤيك، لكنها امتداد للروح وعنوان للسكينة والراحة والهوية». كل أركان تلك البيوت حافلة بالتفاصيل الصغيرة «ومساراتنا فى الحياة تحددها هذه التفاصيل الصغيرة». «الذاكرة القديمة والانطباعات المترسبة فى النفس عن الماضى»، إذن هى نقطة الانطلاق فى مقالات هذا الكتاب لكن بهدف أكبر: «تأمل حياتنا العائلية وحقيقة مشاعرنا ومشاكلنا الإنسانية، لعلنا نستطيع العثور على هويتنا التى جرفتها صراعات الحياة الخاصة». المقالات محاولة لاستعادة الطمأنينة والشعور مجدداً بـ«المذاق المفقود لطعم البيوت الذى لم يغادرنا»، ودعوة صريحة إلى الالتفات إلى ما هو جميل فى الحياة وإلى التفاؤل حتى لو ساءت الأمور والبحث عما سمته الكاتبة «بهجة الحياة» ونبذ «المزاج السيئ الذى نعيش به وفيه جميعاً ونطلق عليه تجاوزاً اكتئاباً». هذه الدعوة هى السمة الغالبة على مقالات الكتاب فمعظمها يحث على تجاوز الضغوط اليومية التى قد «تجعل من الحياة لوحة سوداء ليس بها بقعة ضوء واحدة»، والقفز إلى حياة أخرى ناجحة تبدو وكأنها «لوحة بكل ألوان الطيف الرائعة
