تزخر بلاد الرافدين بالآلاف من المراقد والمزارات والمقامات والمشاهد والمساجد والأضرحة والقبور للأنبياء والأئمة والأولياء متناثرة في كافة الأرجاء من الشمال إلى الجنوب بحيث لا تكاد تخلو بقعة أو منطقة في التجمعات السكانية أو القفار من وجود تلك الأماكن ذات القداسة والإهتمام والرعاية في النفوس.
ومنذ قديم الزمان اشتهرت كثير من المناطق بإعتبارها مهدا للأنبياء والرسل والأولياء ومنها انطلقت دعوة التوحيد أو تشرفت بزيارتهم أو دفنهم فيها كما في بابل واور ونينوى ومساجد السهلة والكوفة وبراثا والخطوة وغيرها فضلاً عن وجود العتبات المقدسة للأئمة من أهل البيت في النجف وكربلاء والكاظمية وسامراء مما يجعل العراق في طليعة الدول من حيث الوفرة الوفيرة في عدد المزارات، والمقامات والأضرحة والتي لا بد من التوفر على تحقيقها ودراستها وتوثيقها وتعيين الصحيح منها والمثبت والمنسوب عن غير الصحيح.
وهذا الكتاب هو محاولة متواضعة لإلقاء الضوء على مجموعة من المراقد والمزارات بحدود (350) مزاراً منها حوالي (20) مرقداً ومقاماً للأنبياء والرسل عليهم السلام و (7) عتبات مقدسة لأئمة أهل البيت معززة بالصور التوضيحية وباللغتين العربية والإنكليزية، وذلك مساهمة منا في تشجيع وتنمية السياحة الدينية في العراق والتي يمكن إعتبارها رافداً أساسياً مهماً بعد النفط في تنمية الموارد المالية، وتعزيز التنمية الإقتصادية لهذا البلد، كما هو الحال في بقية الدول ذات المقومات السياحية والتراثية.
