ليست شرحًا مطولًا ولا دراسة تحليلية، وإنما شذرات تضيء للقارئ كثيرًا في طريقه إلى "الكوميديا الإلهية". هذه هي الصفحات التي بين يدينا، سطرها لنا "حسن عثمان" عن دانتي صاحب العمل الخالد وعن عمله ذاته. فهو لا يطيل علينا بجمل كثيرة أو تحليلات معقدة، وإنما يقدم لنا خريطة هذا العمل الذي استغرق من عمر صاحبه ثمانية عشر عامًا ليخرج إلى عالم الأدب، مولودًا قويًا يعجب به كل من يراه، خريطة تشمل وصفًا لتقسيماته الثلاثة الجحيم، المظهر والفردوس وأهم الشخصيات التي برزت فيه من عصر دانتي أو من حياته التي عاشها مطرودًا من بلدته ومطاردًا من حلمه بامبراطورية موحدة، وكذلك يحتوي على تبيان لأهم أسباب وعوامل خلود هذا العمل الفريد عبر هذه القرون الممتدة أمامه. من الجدير بالذكر أن الكتاب على صغره لم يقتصر على ما يتعلق بتلك الكوميديا فقط، وإنما بدأ بالعصر الذي عاش فيه دانتي ليبين كثيرًا من الأحداث والعوامل التي أثرت في نشأتها وتكوينها، ليصل إلى "دانتي" وحياته أو بالأصح المعروف عن حياته في الأدب والسياسة، ويختتم المؤلف كتابه بجزء من النص، وتحديدًا من الجزء الخاص بـ"الجحيم". إنه كتاب ممتع سهل ومفيد لمن قرأ الكوميديا ومن سيقرأها.
