يقول الله عز وجل: (وما خلقت الجن والإنس إلا ليعبدون), والعبادة اسم شامل لأمور كثيرة أهمها الطهارة والصلاة. فالطهور شطر الإيمان. وأول ما يسأل عنه العبد يوم القيامة الصلاة فإذا صلحت صلح عمله كله وإذا فسدت فسد عمله كله. ومن هنا اهتم علماء الشريعة الذين اختارهم الله لحمل دينه بموضوع الطهارة والصلاة, وجعلوه ثاني الواجبات على المكلف بعد معرفة ربه بعلم التوحيد وألفوا الكثير من المؤلفات المفيدة ومنها هذا الكتاب, حيث يعتبر من الكتب الهامة في الفقه الإسلامي وقد جمع فيه مصنفه مجموعة كبيرة من الفروع الضرورية التي يحتاجها كل مكلف. وكان من أهم ما تناوله: كتاب الطهارة للصلاة, التيمم, المياه, الحياض, المسح على الخفين, نواقض الوضوء, الأنجاس, البئر, الأسآر, فرائض الصلاة, سجود السهو.
