تدور أحداث الرواية "فستانيزم" للكاتب الشاب "عدي إبراهيم" حول طفل في عيد ميلاده العاشر، يرفض كل الهدايا التي جاءت إليه من والديه، والتي يصل ثمن إحداها إلى 5000 جنيه، في مقابل تمسكه بهدية خاله التي هي عبارة عن ميدالية لا يتعدى ثمنها 20 جنيهًا، وذلك بسبب تقديمها في شكل أكثر جاذبية وجمالًا عن هدايا والديه غير المغلفة، الأمر الذي غير من مفهومه للهدايا.
يستعرض عدي من خلال الرواية 7 فساتين أو أغلفة هدايا لـ7 بنات تغيرن تمامًا عندما أصبحن في شكل الهدية "لابسين فساتين جميلة"، وفي نهاية الرواية يبدأ نقاش الأم مع ابنها حول فلسفة الجمال الدائم والمؤقت، "المؤقت" فيما يراه زين الطفل، بطل الرواية، في فترة ارتداء النساء للفساتين قديمًا، و"الدائم" في كون الجمال معنى يسكن عقل الإنسان، خاصة الرجل، يرى به كل ما حوله دائمًا، وليس فقط في النساء ممن يرتدين الفساتين بمختلف أنواعها.
