يحاول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب تسليط الضوء على ذاك الإرث المرئي والمسموع الغني والمميز لفلسطين بهدف المساهمة في الحفاظ عليه بالوسائل الحديثة، وتوثيق الذاكرة الجماعية الفلسطينية المهدَّدة دوماً في ظل الأوضاع السياسية والمعيشية الصعبة للشعب الفلسطيني. يتناول الكتاب هذا الموضوع من ثلاثة أبواب هي: تاريخ نشوء تلك المواد المرئية والمسموعة، ثم أماكن وجود المجموعات المتناثرة والمتشتتة في أرشيفات العالم وكيفية الوصول إليها، وأخيراً بعض الأساسيات التقنية المعمول بها في مجال الأرشفة الرقمية الحديثة ليساعد في إرشاد العاملين في هذا المجال في العالم العربي. وبالإضافة إلى البحث الموضوعي المبني على علوم الأرشفة الرقمية، يتطرق الكتاب أيضاً إلى بعض القضايا الجوهرية المتعلقة بالمحاولات الدائمة والمتعمدة من جانب المؤسسات الإسرائيلية لإخفاء الهوية الثقافية الفلسطينية ومحو الذاكرة الجماعية للشعب الفلسطيني والهيمنة عليها. وبالتالي يناقش بأسلوب موضوعي قضية نهب وفقدان المجموعات المرئية والمسموعة من بيروت عقب الاجتياح الإسرائيلي سنة 1982؛ وهي ذات قيمة ثقافية وتاريخية مميزة جداً، إذ كانت قد أُنتِجَت في ظل النهج النضالي لمنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية منذ انطلاقتها. تمتاز هذه الدراسة بأنها واحدة من أولى الدراسات التي تعالج موضوع الإرث الفلسطيني المرئي والمسموع لا من الخلفية السياسية أو التاريخية للنتاج والحراك الثقافي الفلسطيني، وإنما من المنظور العلمي والعملي لعلوم الأرشيف الحديثة؛ وهي بذلك تمهد الطريق أمام دراسات لاحقة أكثر موضوعية وتعمقاً.
