يتناول الكتاب أسس العقيدة وأصول الدين مبيناً الإعتقادات الواجبة عيناً على المكلفين لأنها من أصول الدين. فهي الواجبة أولاً لأنها المسببة للإقتداء بما جاء في الشرائع من أحكام، ومعرفة الحلال والحرام على سبيل التحقيق والتعيين. وقد تم ترتيب هذا المؤلَّف ضمن قسمين: الكتاب الأول كتاب محاسن الإعتقاد. والكتاب الثاني كتاب سدادا العباد. رتب المؤلف كتابه الأول ضمن مقدمة وخمسة مقاصد وخاتمة. تحدث في المقصد الأول في إثبات الواجب وصفاته من حيث إثبات الواجب على جهة التفصيل والتوحيد ونفي التشريك، والتنزيهات وصفاته الثبوتية، وفي قدرته تعالى وفي كونه عالماً مريداً حيّ سميع متكلم. ودار البحث في المقصد الثاني حول الأفعال المنسوبة إليه تعالى في الحسن والقبح. وفي أفعال العباد وفي وجه الحكمة في أفعاله تعالى وفي بيان ماهية التكليف وأقسامه ووجوبه. وخصص المقصد الثالث للحديث عن النبوة في بيان حسنها وفي نبوة محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وفي كون القرآن معجزاً وفي وجوب عصمته كوجوب عصمة الأنبياء وفي وجوب بقاء شريعة محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وفي أفضليته وفيما يجب أن يتصف به النبي. وتناول في المقصد الرابع مسائل الإمامة من حيث وجوبها وفيما يتصف به الإمام وفي إثبات إمامة الإثني عشر بعد أبيهم وفيما يجب الإعتقاد به من أمر الإمام المنتظر. ودار المقصد الخامس حول المعاد من حيث المعاد الروحاني والجسماني وفي وجوب التصديق إجمالاً بما ورد في أحوال الآخرة. وفي الرد على الدهرية الرحبة وفي معنى الصراط وفي كيفية الحساب ومعنى الميزان وفي كيفية إنطاق الجوارح وفي أحوال القيامة ومواقعها وفي حوض الكوثر والجنة والنار وفي إستحقاق الثواب والعقاب والوعد والوعيد والعدل. ثم دارت الخاتمة حول التوبة ومعناها. هذا الكتاب الأول " محاسن الإعتقاد " أما الكتاب الثاني " سداد العباد " فقد تناول أبواب الفقه إبتداء من الطهارة، الصلاة، الزكاة، الخمس، الصوم، الحج، الجهاد، الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر، المتاجر والمكاسب، البيع.
