تأتي أهمية الدراسة كونها أول دراسة علمية في المجال تهدف إلى المزاوجة بين علم المعلومات وعلم الفولكلور فيما يتعلق بعمليات توثيق المادة الفولكلورية، لذا يعد الكتاب تأصيل نظري وتطبيقي لمنهج علمي في مجال أرشفة مواد المأثورات الشعبية، وقد قام الباحث بجمع مواد ميدانية وتوثيقها بغية الوقوف على مدى كفاءة استخدام مكنز الفولكلور كأداة للتحليل الموضوعي للعناصر الفولكلورية واسترجاعها. ومن ثم فإن مؤسسات المأثورات الشعبية يمكنها في إطار التعاون وتوحيد الجهود فيما بينها من تطبيق استخدام مكنز الفولكلور في عمليات التحليل الموضوعي لوسائط المأثورات الشعبية بها (نص – صور – فيديو) واعتماده كأداة موحدة يمكن الاعتماد عليها وتدعيمها، مما سيؤدي حتما إلى إجراء بعض التعديلات عليه سواء بالإضافة أو الحذف أو التعديل مما سيفضي في النهاية إلى وجود أداة معيارية موحدة مقننة تستخدم في عمليات التحليل الموضوعي لمأثوراتنا الشعبية.
