A lot of people in the third-world countries look at Western civilization with great admiration owing to its industrial progress or technological superiority. They somehow feel that they are inferior to the west. In fact, western technological achievements have created a halo associated with western civilization. This halo effect extends to the third-world youth`s admiration of all the various aspects of western life. Hence, blind imitation finds a rich soil: the imitator copies the imitation, i.e., westerners, in almost everything: clothes, foods, drinks, customs, and behavior.
In fact, there is a clear difference between justifiable rational admiration and blind emotional admiration. It is justifiable to admire the west for its technology because it is an undeniable fact that the west is very advanced, technologically, and hence a lot waits to be learned from the developing countries.
The writer has written this book with two types of audience in mind. First, I address the people of the Islamic countries, some of whom are, unfortunately, completely hypnotized by western civilization. I want them to open their eyes to the very serious crises of this civilization. Second, I address westerners themselves, most of whom wrongly think that their civilization is utterly perfect and that it should be a model for all to imitate.
To him, western civilization suffers from a lot of crises, many problems waiting for solutions. With his Islamic microscope, he can analyze western civilization most probably better than a westerner. He knows the two civilizations: the western one and the Islamic one. You can evaluate the sea conditions better when on the shore than when amidst the sea waves. A reasonable distance is needed between you and the mirror in order to see your image clearly.
It is a book that shows the real crises of the western civilization regarding social, psychological, ethical, and political areas.
