هذا الكتاب خلال ستين عاماً في أفريقيا، لم تبتعد الكرة عن السياسة، ولم تتوقف السياسة عن الإضطهاد، وإذا لم يكن بيد المستعمر، فبيد السلطة الحاكمة، فلق خلف الإستعمار وراءه العديد من الجنرالات والشيوخ والمنافقين لكي يحكموا بإسمه، فتحولت كرة القدم من حلم إلى سلعة، ومن بهجة إلى تعصب، لكن كل ذلك لم يمنع الشعوب الأفريقية، عاشقة تلك اللعبة، من صناعة البهجة بنفسها، أسسوا أندية من عمال المناجم، ومن مريدي الفهاوي، ومن القبائل، ومن طلبة المدارس، ومن رهبان الإرساليات من عمال التزام، ومن سائقي السيارات، من الفلاحين، وصيادي السمك، عمال مصانع الإسمنت، المنبوذين، المرضى، لم يتركوا أية فئة، كان يأكلها اليأس من عدم لعب الكرة، إلا وقاموا يمنحهم كرة يلعبون بها، وكأساً يتنافسون عليه.
لقد منحوا أنفسهم القدرة على صناعة جماعات اللعب، الأفارقة هؤلاء المتألفون، في فهم الطبيعة، وتعلم الدروس منها، تعلموا من قطعان الحيوانات في الغابة، أنهم لا يجب أن يسيروا منفردين كي لا يتم إصطيادهم كانوا في لعبهم، فوزهم، خسارتهم، جماعات، لا يسيرون فرادى أبداً، لذلك أحبوا تلك اللعبة التي لا يمكن أن يلعبها أحد منفرداً، إنها لعبة عشرة قدماً سوداه.
