كانت الموارد الطبيعية ولاتزال شغل الإنسان الشاغل الذى يسبب له قلقاً، فهو يعيش بها وعليها، ولها، ومن أهميتها للإنسان ولاستمرار الحياة على الأرض، كرس الإنسان كل الأساليب العلمية لتنمية الموارد ،وإيجاد البديل واكثار القليل . وتعتبر الموارد الطبيعية ثروة البشرية، ولكن الثروة اساسها لا تكون؛ ولكنها تتكون ، فالبيئة تزخر بالتكوينات البيولوجية، مثل النبات، واجزائه، وتكوينات جيلوجية، كالصخور، والبترول، وتكوينات كيميائية، كأخلاط الغازات التى يتكون منها الهواء الجوى، والتكوينات الفيزيقية كطاقة الشمس، والرياح، وجريان الماء، وهذه التكوينات بذاتها ثروة هائلة. والتكنولوجيا الحيوية؛ هى استخدام تقنيات معقدة لمعالجة الكائن الحى لتحقيق أقصى منفعة للإنسان، سواء كانت هذه المنفعة اقتصادية، أو ،أو صحية أو حربية ، وتشمل تطوير، وانتاج مواد جديدة من الطعام، والدواء، والكساء، والكيماويات، او لتحسين كائنات حية موجودة. وهى تكنولوجيا عمليات صناعية، ترتكز على النظم البيولوجية، وتستهدف تطوير عمليات تجارية ومنتجات، عن طريق دفع الخلايا الحية إلى القيام بمهام خاصة محددة، يمكن التنبؤ بها، والتحكم فيها، ويأتى على قمة الهرم للتكنولوجيا الحيوية، تكنولوجيا الدى ان ايه المطعم والذى يطلق عليه التكنولوجيا الحيوية الحديثة وهذا البحث موضوعه عن التكنولوجيا الحيوية فى اليابان؛ وكيف استفادت منها لتوفير الموارد الطبيعية الضرورية …. فلماذا اليابان ؟ اليابان هى احدى أهم الدول الآسيوية، فقد كانت محط انظار العالم؛ وقد ثارت حولها تساؤلات كثيرة، ويرجع سبب اختيار اليابان كنموذج لبحث تنمية الموارد الطبيعية بالتكنولوجيا الحيوية، لأن اليابان بالرغم من فقرها فى الموارد الطبيعية، فهى ثانى قوة اقتصادية عظمى، حيث اتجهت لاستغلال مواردها الطبيعية استغلال مثالى، والعمل الدائم على استخدام التكنولوجيا لتجويد منتجاتها؛ على الرغم من كثرة معوقات التقدم من كوارث طبيعية ، وقلة موارد، وندرة موارد أخرى، إلا أن هذا لم يأخذ من عزيمتها وسعيها نحو التقدم شيئا
