ارتبط اسم المراغي بفترة مهمة في التاريخ المصري المعاصر، خاصة حقبة الثلاثينيات التي شهدت آثار إلغاء الخلافة العثمانية والدور الذي لعبته القوى الأوروبية الساعية إلى أن تحل محل الدولة العثمانية، والجدل الدائر حول الدستور،وموقف الإمام منه ومن حزب الوفد، وعلاقاته بالقصر والإنجليز، وكل ما كان يدور في مصر وحولها، وكانت آراؤه في كل المواقف مص أولاً، وقد وثق الكتاب كل مؤلفات المراغي المنشورة وغير المنشورة، وكان من بين الأعمال التي لم تنشر مؤلفه "الأولياء والمحجورون": وهو بحث فقهي لايزال مخطوطاً بمكتبة الأزهر، وفيه تناول المراغي مسألة الحجر على السفهاء، وتكمن أهمية هذا المؤلف في أن المراغي قد نال به عضوية هيئة كبار العلماء.
