يعد هذا الكتاب محاولة لتقديم عدد من الموضوعات التي يجب أن يلم بها معلمو التربية الخاصة والتي يمكن أن يتم توظيفها في مجال تدريس العلوم لمختلف الفئات الخاصة وليس فئة بعينها، وقد تضمن الكتاب ستة فصول وهي: الفصل الأول والذي اهتم بالعلم وما يرتبط به من موضوعات (ماهيته، وأهدافه، وخصائصه، وعمليات العلم)، والفصل الثاني وقد تناول مجالات التربية الخاصة ونماذج ومجالات المناهج للتربية الخاصة، أما الفصل الثالث فقد تضمن فئة المعاقين عقلياً وطرح عدداً من استراتيجيات ومداخل التدريس التي تناسبهم، وتناول الفصل الرابع فئة الإعاقة السمعية وأسس تخطيط وبناء مناهج لهم، والاتجاهات المعاصرة في بنائها، وكذلك الوسائل التعليمية المستخدمة في التدريس بصفة عامة وللمعاقين سمعياً بصفة خاصة، ثم تناول الفصل الخامس فئة الموهوبين وتناول عدداً من الاستراتيجيات التدريسية التي تنمي طاقاتهم وتزيد من إبداعاتهم وتتوافق مع إمكانياتهم، أما الفصل السادس والأخير فقد تناول فئة ذوي صعوبات التعلم، وتكييف مناهج ذوي صعوبات التعلـّم وغرفة المصادر، وانتهى الفصل بتقديم نظرة مستقبلية للاهتمام بذوي صعوبات التعلم.
