إن منظومة الشيخ البيقوني من أهم المنظومات في علم الحديث، وقد اشتهرت وانتشرت، وزاعت وشاعت، وكثر شراحها والمهتمون بها، فقلما تجد مشتغلًا بعلم الحديث في عصرنا إلا وقد قام بشرحها والاهتمام بها.
وهي منظومة رشيقة، سهلة الحفظ، دقيقة العبارة، قريبة التناول، تقع في أربعة وثلاثين بيتًا، وتشتمل على اثنين وثلاثين نوعًا من أنواع علوم الحديث.
وكان من أهم شروح هذه المنظومة على الإطلاق شرح الإمام العلامة المحدث الفقيه محمد بن عبد الباقي الزرقاني، وبالرغم من أهمية هذا الشرح إلا أني لم أجد من اهتم بإخراجه على الصورة التي تليق به، وقد وقفت له على طبعتين قديمتين.
ولا يوجد في هاتين الطبعتين تعليق، ولا تخريج للأحاديث، وبهما كثير من الأخطاء، فقمت بحمد الله بتحقيق هذا الشرح، والتعليق عليه، وتخريج أحاديثه على قدر الوسع والطاقة.
واقتضت خطة هذا البحث أن أقسمه إلى: المقدمة وتشتمل على إشارة إلى سبب تحقيقي لهذا الكتاب، وخطتي ومنهجي في تحقيقه، الدراسة تشتمل على أربعة مباحث: المبحث الأول: ترجمة الناظم الشيخ البيقوني رحمه الله تعالى، المبحث الثاني: ذكر أهم شروح المنظومة البيقونية، المبحث الثالث: ترجمة الشارح الإمام الزرقاني رحمه الله تعالى، المبحث الرابع: وصف النسخ التي اعتمدت عليها في تحقيق الكتاب، النص المحقق للكتاب، الفهارس.
