إن الله تبارك وتعالى ضم شهادة العلماء إلى شهادته سبحانه وشهادة الملائكة بأنه عز وجل قائم بالقسط لا إله إلا هو العزيز الحكيم، وأخبر النبي بأن العلماء ورثة الأنبياء، وأن فضلهم على سائل الناس كفضل القمر على سائر الكواكب، ومن هؤلاء العلماء الذين كان لهم نصيب من ميراث النبوة والذين رفعوا لواء الدعوة إلى سبيل الله، وجاهدوا في الله حق جهاده شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية رحمه الله، فهو يمثل الترسانة الفكرية والوقود الذي لا ينفد والمعين الذي لا ينضب لكل من جاء بعده ممن أراد الإصلاح والسير على نهج الصحابة والتابعين اعتقاداً وقولاً وعملاً. فقد رد على الفلاسفة والمتكلمين، ودحض شبهات المعاندين من الفرق، وناظر النصارى من أهل الكتاب، وقام بالنصح لأئمة المسلمين وعامتهم، وجاهد في رفع راية الحق والدين باللسان واليمين. فمن أراد الوقوف على حقيقة الإسلام، ويطلع على صفاء العقيدة الإسلامية ونقائها فليعض بالنواجذ على كتب ورسائل هذا العالم الرباني المجاهد العابد، وليتمسك بمنهجه في الإستنباط والتطبيق. ومهما قيل في هذا العالم مدحاً أو قدحاً، فإن الله أبى أن ينقطع عمله. إن من تلاميذ ابن تيمية: الذهبي أستاذ المحدثين، والمزي من أئمة الناقدين، وابن كثير شيخ المفسرين والمؤرخين، وابن عبد الهادي قدوة المحققين المدققين، وابن القيم علم المنقحين والمبدعين والروحانيين.
لهذا بادر المؤلف في الكتابة عن حياة شيخ الأسلام ابن تيمية والترجمة له وبيان سيرته. وقد قسمت هذه السيرة الذاتية لابن تيمية إلى عشرة فصول:
الفصل الأول: اسمه ونسبه
الفصل الثاني: جهاده وشجاعته.
الفصل الثالث: قصصه.
الفصل الرابع: مناظراته.
الفصل الخامس: رسائله.
الفصل السادس: معرفته باللغة العبرية والتركية والفارسية.
الفصل السابع: قصائده.
الفصل الثامن: مروياته.
الفصل التاسع: فتاوى وأجوبته.
الفصل العاشر: مؤلفاته وكتبه.
