الروائى كريستوف بيترس، المولود فى ألمانيا عام 1966، له اهتمام خاص بالعالم العربى والإسلامى، منذ أن زار مصر فى بداية التسعينيات من القرن العشرين، وقد أثمرت هذه الزيارة روايته هذه "حجرة فى دار الحرب" عام 2006.
موضوع الرواية شاب ألمانى يعتنق الإسلام فى بداية التسعينيات، ثم ينخرط فى الفكر المتطرف، وينضم إلى مجموعة إرهابية تخطط للهجوم على معبد الأقصر. وبعد أن يفشل الهجوم وتقبض السلطات المصرية على الشاب يتولى السفير الألمانى القضية محاولاً تسليمه لبلده ألمانيا ليتفادى حكم الإعدام، ويكشف الحوار بين السفير والشاب عن فكرة أساسية: أن التطرف موجود فى كل المجتمعات البشرية، ولايرتبط بدين معين.
