هذا الكتاب عبارة عن قاموس لمصطلحات وتعابير الموسيقى الشعبية المصرية .. ويقول المؤلف أن هذه المصطلحات والتعابير قد تراكمت حتى زاد عددها عن 1200 مصطلح جاءت كلها نتجية لأعمال ميدانية امتدت من أوائل السبعينيات وحتى المراحل النهائية من إعداد هذا القاموس وقد اهتم بجمعها لما ازدادت المشكلات التى تخلفت بسبب تعارض المفاهيم واختلاف التفسيرات لدى الكثير من الباحثين وهذا ما كشفت عنه أعداد غير قليلة من الدراسات التى أجريت في موضوعات الموسيقا الشعبية في مصر فأغلبها كان يفتقد الدلالة الصحيحة لهذا الصنف من المصطلحات وقد انعكس ذلك على سير هذه البحوث وعلى الكيفية التى كانت تجرى بها معالجة موضوعاتها... ومن هنا قدر المؤلف أن يجمع كل هذه المصطلحات في كتاب واحد حتى يتم الرجوع إليها وقت الحاجة إليها..
