لنقل البحرى أهم موضوعات القانون البحرى على الإطلاق، وهو المحور الذى تدور حوله الموضوعات الأخرى، وإن كانت هذه الموضوعات لاتقل غرابة وخروجاً على القواعد العامة فى كل من مشكلاتها وحلولها.
على أن الناقل البحرى فى الكثير الغالب من الحالات لابد له من الإستعانة بوكلاء ومعاونين له فى عمليات تسيير السفينة واستغلالها، لذلك كانت دراسة نشاط هؤلاء الوكلاء والمعاونيين مقدمة لازمة لدراسة عملية النقل ذاتها.
ولذلك بدأنا بدراسة الرٌبان، وكيله الملازم، ووكيل السفينة أو الوكيل البحرى، ووكيل الشحنة، ووكيل الترانزيت، ثم المقاول البحرى، فالمرشد، فالقاطرة، وكل هؤلاء ليسوا ناقلين، ولكنهم يساهمون مساهمة فعالة فى تنفيذ عقود إيجار السفينة وعقود النقل.
ونقسم دراسة نقل البضائع بحراً إلى أقسام، يأتى فى أولها الأحكام العامة، ثم إيجار السفينة عارية أو غير مجهزة، فإيجارها مجهزة وهو ينقسم إلى بابين، إيجارها بالمدة وإيجارها بالرحلة، ثم عقد النقل. ولكن نمهد فى كتاب أول ندرس فيه معاونى الناقل البحرى.
