ابن شداد (539 - 632 هـ = 1145 - 1234 م)
يوسف بن رافع بن تميم بن عتبة الأسدي الموصلي، أبو المحاسن، بهاء الدين ابن شداد: مؤرخ، من كبار القضاة.
ولد بالموصل، ومات أبوه وهو صغير، فنشأ عند أخواله «بني شداد» وشداد جده لأمه، فنسب إليهم.
وتفقه بالموصل، ثم ببغداد، وتولى الإعادة بالنظامية نحو أربع سنين.
وعاد إلى الموصل، فدرس وصنف بعض كتبه.
وسافر إلى حلب، فحدث بها وبدمشق ومصر وغيرها.
ولما دخل دمشق، كان السلطان صلاح الدين محاصرا قلعة «كوكب» فدعاه إليه، وولاه قضاء العسكر وبيت المقدس والنظر على أوقافه.
واستصحبه معه في بعض غزواته، فدون وقائعه وكثيرا من أخباره.
ولما توفي صلاح الدين كان حاضرا.
وتوجه إلى حلب لجمع كلمة الإخوة أولاد صلاح الدين، وتحليف بعضهم لبعض.
ثم انصرف إلى مصر لاستخلاف الملك العزيز (عثمان بن صلاح الدين يوسف) وعرض عليه الظاهر (صاحب حلب) الحكم فيها، فأجاب. قال السبكي: وكان مدبر أمور الملك فيها.
وقال ابن العديم: كانت ولايته قضاء حلب ووقوفها سنة 591 واستمر إلى أن توفي فيها.
وهو شيخ المؤرخ ابن خلكان.
من كتبه «النوادر السلطانية والمحاسن اليوسفية - ط» في سيرة السلطان صلاح الدين، و «دلائل الأحكام - خ» في الحديث، و «ملجأ الحكام عند التباس الأحكام - خ» في القضاء و «فضل الجهاد» و «الموجز الباهر» في الفروع، وكتاب «العصا - خ» و «أسماء الرجال الذين في المهذب للشيرازي - خ» الجزء الأول منه، في المخطوطات المصورة 52 ورقة
