وخلال هذه الفترة خضع الكروات لعديد من القوى السياسية التي فرضت نفوذها في البلقان خلال رحلتهم نحو الإستقرار وبناء الدولة.
وتباينت الأحوال الداخلية لكرواتيا بين القوة والضعف، وأصبحت مملكة للمرة الاولى تحت حكم توميسلاف الأول ومروراً بعهد بطرس كريشيمير الرابع، لتنتقل بعدها إلى الحكم الهنجاري.
ثم شهد القرن الرابع عشر دخول العثمانيين البلقان، وتغير موازين القوى في أوروبا حتى باتت كرواتيا في أيدي العثمانيين 1526م.
