هذا الكتاب عبارة عن قصص مسرحية ساخرة, وقد تناول المؤلف برؤية ساخرة نماذج مختلفة من المجتمع كالثرثار والساذج والوطني والدخيل والإنسان السوي. إنها قصص مسرحية تتسم بالبعد الإنساني وتدل على حبه للحياة والحرية, وشخصياتها ضحايا الغش وهم محكومون بالقواعد الزائفة للأدب واللباقة. وينتقد فيها بشدة السيئات والطبائع المتجذرة في حياة الأغنياء والطبقة الوسطى في المجتمع مثل اللباقة المزورة والباطلة والولع بالموضة والتبرج التي بدأت تتفشى وتسيء الى سلوكيات طبقة الفقراء. لقد كان الكاتب يرى في التعابير السلبية للحياة مصيبة اجتماعية كبيرة. وقد احتل موضوع الجوانب السلبية من الحياة الأخلاقية في المجتمع أنذاك حيزاً كبيراً في إبداعات بارونيان, فقصصه تولد من رحم الواقع والحالة العامة, ومواضيعه هي نتيجة للتناقضات السائدة في المجتمع.
هاكوب بارونيان: من رواد الأدب والمسرح الساخر في أرمينيا. ولد في مدينة أدرنة وتوفي في القسطنطينية. أخذ ينشر فيها مقالات ذات طابع ساخر كأصداء للحياة الاجتماعية والوطنية ويفضح سياسة المصلحة.
