ويعد العصر العثماني من العصور المهمّة في الحضارة الإسلامية، وقد حظيت فيه العمارة الإسلامية باهتمام كبير ساعد على تطورها وإنتشارها في العالم، ومن أهم معالم هذه العمارة عمارة الخانات والقيسريات والأسواق التي كانت لها أهمية خاصة في هذا العصر، وهذه المعالم كانت موجودة في المدن منذ عصور ما قبل الإسلام، ازدادت أهميتها وبرزت خصائص جديدة لها في العصور الإسلامية، وكان هذا باعثاً على اختيار هذا الموضوع والبحث فيه.
