كانت بصمتها الخاصة في أدب الطفل في أنها استطاعت التعبير عن تطلعات الطفل البرىء، ورغبته في التخلص من الكبت والقمع الذي نورس عليه باسم التربية والأخلاق.
ولدت استريد لندجرين في 14 نوفمبر 1907بمدينة فيمربيجنوب السويد،نشأت في بيئة تقدر القراءة لذلك تعرفت مبكرا على القصص والروايات الخيالية، أشهر قصصها بيبي ذات الجوارب الطويلة كلنا أطفال في برلين المفتش بلومكفيست ميو مني ميو كارلسون على السطح وبلغ إجمالى أعمالها 84 كتابا للأطفال وحوالى40 نصا سينمائيا،

كارلسون شخصية لطيفة مبتكرة أبصرت النور على يد الكاتبة المبدعة آستريد ليندجرين، ووجدت مكاناً كبيراً لها في القلوب التوَّاقة إلى الخيال المبدع، أحبَّ الأطفال كارلسون وعرفه الكثير منهم عن طريق الكتب التي تروي حكاياته وعن طريق الرسوم المتحركة والمسرحيات.
"... ألقَى كارلْسُون نَظرةً خاطِفةً علَى إيريِك، وتابَع إِبحارَهُ في الهَواءِ، دارَ فوقَ سَطحِ البناءِ المُقابِلِ، لفَّ حولَ المدخَنةِ، ثُمَّ قادَ طريقَةُ عائداً إلى نافذة إيريك.
وفي هذه الفَترةِ ازدادَت سرعةُ مُحرَّكِهِ، وأطلَقَ ما يُشبِهُ الصَّفيرَ وهُو يَمرُّ بإبرِيِك؛ وفي هَذه الفَترةِ ازدادَت سرعةُ مُحرِّكِهِ، وأطلَقَ مَا يُشبِهُ الصَّفيرَ وهُو يَمرُّ بإيرِيك، كطائرةٍ نفَّاثةٍ تقريباً... اندَفَعَ الرَّجلُ مُحَلَّقاً ومرَّ به عدَّة مرّاتٍ.
وقفَ إيرِيك يُراقِبهُ بِصمتٍ، لَكِن الفَرَاشاتِ لَعِبَت في بَطنه مِن شدَّة الإثارةِ، فالمَرءُ، مَهما اختلفتِ الظروفُ، لا يَرى كلَّ يومٍ رِجالاً.
صِغاراً وسِماناً يَطيرونَ أمامَ نافِذتهِ...".
