تمسكاً بسنة النبي المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم وتعاليمه العظيمة، ولأن في كلامه تسكيناً للنفس، وتنويراً للعقل، وهذا ما تعكسه هذه الباقة من الأحاديث التي وردت عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، التي اشتملت على مجموعة من الحكم والوصايا والتعاليم، التي هي للروح حياة، وللقلب شفاء، وللبدن عافية، كيف لا وهي كلمات الصادق الأمين، الذي وصفه ربه بقوله: ﴿وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى (3) إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَى﴾... [سورة النجم: 3-4]، وهو البشير النذير، الطبيب، السراج المنير، الذي أحيا قلوب الكائنات، بعد أن أخرجها من الظلمات إلى النور.
هذا وقد تم إختيار أربعين حديثاً عملاً بالوارد عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، كما جاء في حديث عنه، من حفظ في أربعين حديثاً حشره الله مع النبيين والصديقين والشهداء والصالحين وحسن أولئك رفيقاً.
هذا وعلى الرغم من ورود واخبار تحض على حفظ أربعين حديثاً بنحوٍ متجزى، إلا أن هنالك حديثاً يستفاد منه بحسب الظاهر، الإكتفاء بحفظ أربعين وصية وإن وردت في حديث واحد، ولأجل ذلك، وتعميماً للفائدة، اشتمل هذا الكتيب على قسمين اسْتُهِلاّ بمدخل الذي تضمن أخبار تؤكد فضيلة حفظ أربعين حديثاً عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وعثرته، مع تعليق مختصر عليها، فيما يتم تخصيص القسم الأول لعرض حديث اشتمل على أربعين وصية، وتم في القسم الثاني عرف أربعين حديثاً عن النبي الأكرم صلى الله عليه وسلم.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن الاخبار التي حضّت على حفظ أربعين حديثاً، وردت عن النبي تارة، وعن عترته تارة أخرى، ومنها ما يمكن حمله على التخصيص بالأحاديث النبوية، ومنها ما يحمل على العموم، بحيث يشمل ما ورد عن الأئمة الأطهار عليهم السلام، وتم حصر البحث بالأحاديث المأثورة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بإعتباره النبع العذب، المتدفق، والمعلم الأعظم الذي أخذ عن النور غير المتناه، والرسول المكرم الذي أفاض عليه الله تعالى، بالوحي المبارك، والذي تولى تأديبه، حيث قال: "أدبني ربّي فأحسن تأديبي".
وأخيراً يمكن القول بأن هذا الكتيب، وبالإضافة إلى ما سبق، تضمن تفسير المفردات الواردة في المتن، وتعليقات على هامش الكتيب الذي جاء بمثابة شرح مبسط، أو إضافة نافعة لبعض المضامين الواردة في الأحاديث الشريفة.
