هذه التمثيلية هي السادسة في سلسلة التمثيليات التي تصدرها دار القلم للكاتب الدكتور أحمد شوقي الفنجري، ورغم أن هذه التمثيليات عمل درامي يشد القارئ بالمواقف الحادة والصراع بين مختلف الأطراف والاتجاهات، إلا أن المؤلف قد حرص دائماً على أمانة التاريخ وصدق الرواية حتى تكون الفائدة أكبر والتأثير أعمق.
ويبدأ الفصل الأول والخليفة سليمان بن عبد الملك على فراش الموت، وأمراء بني أمية من حوله، كل يطمع ف يالخلافة ويسعى جاهداً لها.. ثم يفاجأ الجميع بأنها تذهب إلى أبعدهم عنها.. وعنهم.. عمر بن عبد العزيز.
وفي الفصل الثاني نجد الصراع داخل نفس عمر من لحظة توليه المسئولية، وقد أصبح أعظم حاكم على ظهر الأرض يحكم ملكا لا تغيب عنه الشمس من الصين إلى الأندلس، فنرى الصراع الداخلي بين الفتى المترف، الذي كان لمس الحرير يدمي بنائه، وبين التربية الإسلامية والمثل العليا التي تربى عليها ووعاها جيداً، وفي لحظة صدق يحدث الانقلاب الروحي، ويتحول هذا الفتى الناعم إلى متقشف زاهد.. وإلى قائد مصلح.. وإلى مجاهد عنيد لا يكل ولا يمل في سبيل الحق، ثم يتوالى الصراع.. وتتوالى الاصلاحات والانجازات (الشورى - الولاء الأكفاء والمصلحون - سيادة القانون - اعادة توزيع الدخل - الرفق بالرعية - الحسم مع المفسدين - العسس بالليل - المرافق العامة)
ولم تمض سنوات ثلاث هي كل الفترة من حكمه إلى مماته.. حتى كان قد فرض لكل مولود في الإسلام راتبا.. ولكل عاجز مأوى ولكل أعمى دليلا.. بل فاض الخير فاشترى العبيد الصالحين وأعتقهم.. ودفع مهور البنات.. وزوج الشباب، إن هذه التمثيلية هي المثل الصادق لما يمكن أن يفعله فرد واحد يفهم روح الاسلام ويلتزم بتعاليمه لإصلاح أحوال أمة مهما كان مدى التردي والسوء فينشر العدل مكان القهر - والرخاء بدل الفقر - والحب بدل الحقد - والأمن مكان الفتن - والقوة مكان الضعف والأمل بدل الضياع.
