إن هدف هذا الكتاب هو تقديم طريقة جديدة للتدريب ولتعليم الأفراد مهارات وقدرات جديدة كما أنه يعتمد على التعليم التحولي الذي له علاقة بتغيير هياكل إسناد الأفراد أو النماذج العقلية من أجل إنتاج تغييرات عميقة في ملاحظاتهم، وفي طرق الحياة، وعمليات التفكير والسلوك.
ويصبح هذا أساس موثوقاً فيه لتغيير نظامهم اليومي والرغبة هنا هي تطبيق هذا المنهج لمساعدة الأفراد على تطوير مهاراتهم لزيادة قدراتهم الضرورية على التفكير والعمل وهذا يتضمن ترتيب الأفراد لتطوير المهارات والقدرات التي تسمح لهم بتحويل النماذج العامة والتفكير الجماعي الذي يؤدي إلى النتائج الغير مرغوب فيها ويتكون هذا من مساعدة المجموعات على تطوير الذكاء الجماعي والقدرة على اتخاذ خطوات مؤثرة أعظم من التي يقوم بها الأفراد بمفردهم.
فعندما يقوم الأفراد بالتفكير والتفاعل مع بعضهم البعض بصورة جيدة فأنهم يرون الأشياء بطريقة جديدة شاملة ويتعاملون بطريقة جديدة بدلاً من رؤية الأفراد لأنفسهم كأنهم كائنات معزولة أو جزءاً من عجلة كبيرة فأنهم يرون أنفسهم كجزء من مجتمع الممارسة والعمل كما لو كانوا يعبرون ويقومون بالأحداث، وبدلاً من رؤية المبيعات في الانخفاض فأنهم يرون اافتراضات والممارسات التي كانت وماتزال تأخذ على علتها تحتاج إلى فحص، وبدلاً من رؤية الأفراد في باقي الأقسام على أنهم غير متعاونين فأنهم يرون أن الأفراد لديهم خرائط عقلية مختلفة أو طرقاً للتفكير.
