يشتمل الكتاب على معانٍ عميقة ومشاعر مؤلمة وآهات.. ثم أمل وابتسامات لمن يُريد أن يعرف قيمة الزواج الحقيقية وأهميته وفوائده، كما تصف المؤلفة المعاناة التي يعانيها المتأخرون في الزواج، كيف يختار الشخص شريك حياته، وكيف يصل إلى شريك الحياة الذي طال انتظاره؟ وتبين إيمان أن الزواج هو استجابة للفطرة الكامنة في ميل كل ذكر للأنثى، وميل كل أنثى للذكر، فكل منهما في حاجة إلى الآخر ليشاطره حلو الحياة ومرها، ويتجاوب معه تجاوباً مستمراً فعالاً يجعله لا يأبه بهموم الحياة، فتأخر الزواج هو تعطيل لمراحل النمو الطبيعية للإنسان، ويؤثر في مراحل حياته.. وينتج عنه انحرافات أخلاقية ونفسية واجتماعية وثقافية وأخطار تهدد كيان المجتمع، وتحدث خللًا في سلوكياته، لذا الاختيار للزواج هو أهم القرارات التي يتخذها الإنسان في حياته، سواء كان ذكرا أو أنثى، فعليه أن يختار اختياراً سوياً؛ لأنه يترتب عليه سعادته أو شقاؤه.
وينقسم الكتاب إلى خمسة فصول، تشرح فيها الكاتبة مجموعة متنوعة من القضايا، في سياق تحليلي منهجي. وتحاول إيمان في هذا الصدد، أن تستخلص قيمة الزواج، ومشكلات تأخر سن الزواج، واختيار شريك الحياة، وأخيراً: الحلول المقترحة للقضاء على مشكلة تأخر سن الزواج. تعرف الكاتبة في الفصل الأول والذي يأتي بعنوان «الزواج»، طبيعة وتوصيفات عقد الزواج، كما أنها تلقي الضوء على أهميته وفوائده. أما في الفصل الثاني والمعنون باسم «تأخر سن الزواج». فتتناول إيمان في فصول الكتاب، السن المناسبة للزواج. ومن ثم فإنها تنتقل إلى ذكر أسباب التأخر في الزواج بشكل عام، ومن ثم تركز على توضيح ماهية المشكلات الناتجة عن تأخر سن الزواج، والتي ينتج عنها مشكلات: نفسية واجتماعية وصحية، إلى أن يصل الكتاب في نهاية الفصل إلى تقديم الحلول المقترحة للقضاء على مشكلة تأخر سن الزواج. أما الفصل الثالث«مواصفات شريك الحياة». فتخصصه لتناول كل ما يخص شريك الحياة نفسه. وينتقل الكتاب إلى الفصل الرابع وهو «الدراسة الميدانية» والذي يحتوي على دراسة ميدانية قامت بها مؤلفة الكتاب، لتذكر خلال الفصل المشكلة التي واجهتها أثناء الدراسة، ثم أهمية الدراسة.. وفروض الدراسة، وصولًا إلى منهجها وعينتها، وكذلك الأدوات المستخدمة في الدراسة وطريقة التطبيق، والأساليب الإحصائية المستخدمة فيها. وختاما: النتائج وتفسيرها. يختتم الكتاب بالفصل الخامس، والذي يرصد الدراسات السابقة.
