كتاب الديات للإمام الكبير الحافظ الثقة أبي بكر ابن أبي عاصم ، أقدمه لأهل العلم عامة وللمشتغلين بالحديث الشريف خاصة. والديات جمع دية وهى اسم المال الذي يدفع لأهل القتيل سواء في القتل الخطأ، أو في العمد اذا عفوا عن القصاص، كما تطلق الكلمة ايضا على المال الذي يدفع للمعتدى عليه اذا ذهب أحد أطرافه حسا او منفعة ، ويعبر بعض الفقهاء عن ذلك بقولهم " الدية : المال الذي هو بدل النفس او الطرف" وباب الديات باب كبير من ابواب الفقه يتاول فيه الفقهاء ، امور عدة تتعلق بهذا الشان. وقد صنف ابن ابي عاصم هذا الكتاب لرواية الأحاديث المسندة أصلا ويعض الاثار عن الصاحابة وغيرهم تبعا ، المتعلقة بهذا الأمر. وقد قسم - في سبيل ذلك - كتابه هذا إلى أبواب روى في كل باب ما يناسبة من احاديث. ولم يقتصر ابن ابي عاصم على الأحاديث المتعلقة بالديات مباشرة، بل جاء كتابه حافلا بالأحاديث المرتبطة بهذا الأمر من قريب او بعيد ولذلك جاءت عنده أبواب ليست بالقليلة لاتصب مباشرة في مسائل الديات كما يتناولها الفقهاء ففق كتابه ابواب مثل : ذكر قول النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم "سباب المسلم فسوق وقتاله كفر" وهو اول ابواب الكتاب- ومن الكبائرالإشراك بالله وقتل النفس والايمان قيد الفتك لا يفتك مؤمن وما دل على توبة القاتل وغير ذلك. وقد حاء الكتاب على منهج المحدثين الذين يعتنون في المقام الول برواية الأحاديث التى يريدونها في الباب دون تدخل يذكر بالتعليق سواء على الإسناد أو على المتن اكتفاء بالعنوان الذي يقدمونه بين يدى الأحاديثن لذلك جاءت عليقات ابن ابي عاصم قليلة بل نادرة وان كانت تدل على وعي عميق وفقه دقيق وعلم واسع.
