إن الله تعالى أراد أن يبتلي عبادة المؤمنين ببعض المحن ليصقل بها نفوسهم وليطهر قلوبهم ويقوي إيمانهم وعزيمتهم ويختبر صبرهم وقوة إرادتهم ورضاهم بما قسم الله لهم وقدره عليهم والابتلاء قد يكون في النفس أو المال أو في الولد أو في أي مظهر من مظاهر الحياة وقد يكون البلاء والاختبار فيها انعم الله به على الإنسان من مال أوجاه أو صحة إلى غير ذلك وأن الذين تعرضوا لأشد أنواع البلاء هو الأنبياء عليهم السلام وخاصة أولو العزم منهم وقد نعتوا بهذا الوصف لشدة ابتلائهم وقوة عزمهم في مواجهة هذا البلاء وأولهم وأكثرهم محناً وأشدهم ابتلاء هو خاتم الانبياء سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وهذا الكتاب وضع ليبين لنا صور الابتلاء الذي تعرض له النبي الكريم حتى نقتدي به وبصبره وعزمه وإيمانه وقوة مواجهته لمحن الحياة وآلامها.
