ظهرت المدارس الكلامية المختلفة في أحضان الأديان الإلهية الكبرى لتساعد المتدينين على إستيعاب وفهم معارف أديانهم بنحو أعمق، وتسلحهم بأسلحة المنطق والفكر حيال معارضيهم.
وفي المقابل كان هناك دوماً من أشكل على العقائد الدينية، تارة بهدف معارضة الأديان المنافسة، وتارة بقصد البحث عن الحقيقة، وأحياناً بنية بث الشبهات ومحاربة الدين.
وقد حث هؤلاء المتشككون المتدينين على مزيد من التفكير والتعمق، لكنهم للأسف نجحوا أحياناً في قطع الطريق النيّر للأديان السماوية، وحرموا عباد الله تعالى من موائد المعارف الدينية.
