تاريخ أدب اللغة.
التاريخ - هو معرفة اخبار الماضيين وأحوالهم من حيث معيشتهم، وسياستهم، وأعتقادهم، أدبهم، ولغتهم.
والأدب كل رياضة محمودة يتخرج بها الانسان في فضيلة من الفضائل، وهذه الرياضة كما تكون بالفعل وحسن النظر والمحاكاة، تكون بمزاولة الاقوال الحكيمة التي تضمنتها لغة أي امة.واللغة يعبر بها كل امة عن أغراضهم.
وأدب لغة اى أمة هو ما اودع نثرها وشعرها من نتائج عقول ابناءها، وأمثلة طبائعهم، وصور أخيلتهم ومبلغ بيانهم، مما شأنه أن يهذب النفس، ويثقف العقل، ويقوم اللسان.
وتاريخ أدب اللغة هو العلم الباحث عن أحوال اللغة: نثرها ونظمها في عصورها المختلفة من حيث رفعتها وضعتها، وعما كان لنابيغها من الاثر البين فيها، وهو على النظام الآتي بعد حديث النشاة في مصر.
ومن أهم فوائده:
1- معرفة أسباب ارتقاء أدب اللغة وانحطاطه، دينية كانت تلك الأسباب أو اجتماعية أو سياسية، فنستمسك بأسباب الارتقاء، ونتحامى أسباب الانحطاط.
2- معرفة أساليب اللغة، وفنونها، وأفكار أهلها، ومواضعاتهم، وأختلاف اذواقهم في نثرهم ونظمهم، على أختلاف عصورهم، ختى يتهيأ للمتخرج في هذا العلم أن يميز بين صور الكلام في عصر عن صُوره في اخر، بل ربما صح له أن يلحق القول بقائله عينه.
3- معرفة أحوال النابهين من أهل اللغة في كل عصر، وما كان لنثرهم، وشعرهم، وتأليفهم: من أثر محمود، أو حال ممقوتة، لنحتذي مثال المحسن، ونتنكب عن طريقة المسئ.
