رشيد مدينة عربية قديمة نشأت عام 870هـ في خلافة المتوكل على الله العباسي وسميت نسبة إلى الأصل القبطي رشيت وهذه المدينة أقدم من ذلك بكثير إذ أن لها أصل مصرى قديم فرعوني وعندما أنشأت القاهرة في العصر الفاطمي ضعفت اهمية الأسكندرية فى حين برزت رشيد التى ازدادت أهميتها نظرا لأكتشاف حجر رشيد فيها والذي فك رموزه شامبليون وقد تعلمنا من خلاله معنى الحروف الهيروغليفية أما موضوع هذا الكتاب فهو التعريف بمقومات الإبداع وكيفية التصدي لمعوقاته في رشيد من خلال نظرة ثقافية اجتماعية ديموجرافية للإنتاج والإبداع كما اهتم الكتاب بالشباب والتقاليد الاجتماعية والتدين في رشيد والتنمية والتغير في وضع المرأة الرشيدية ورؤية الشخصية الرشيدية لذاتها وانعكاس ذلك على بعض التقاليد والطقوس الاجتماعية المعروفة والمتبعة.
