هذة رسالة بن على بن يحيى المنجم ، مولى الخليفة المعتضد بالله ، فى الموسيقى ، تعرف أيضا فى أقدم المراجع باسم : (كتاب النغم) ، ذكرها كذلك أبو الفرج الأصفهانى فى كتاب (الأغانى ) ، عند ذكر الأصوات التى تجمع النغم العشر ، لعبيد الله بن عبد الله بن طاهر . وهو أبو أحمد يحيى بن على بن يحيى المنجم ، نديم الموفق بالله ، أخى الخليفة المعتمد ثم المعتضد والمكتفى من بعدهما ، وكان شاعرا متكلما على مذهب المعتزلة .
وله هذة الرسالة التى نحن بصدد تحقيقها ، وصف فيها أمر النغم وعددها واختلاف مابين أصحاب الغناء العربى وبين أصحاب الموسيقى من الفلاسفة القدماء ، وذكر فيها أمر الأصابع وماسماه إسحاق بن إبراهيم الموصلى : "المجرى" فى الأصوات التى رسم بعضها فى مجرى الوسطى وبعضها فى مجرى البنصر
