إسحاق بن إبراهيم الموصلي، عمدة المغنين وأهل صانعة الألحان في العصر العباسي الأول. وهو الذي صنف أجناس الألحان وإيقاعاتها وميزها على الوجه الذي عرفت به أصوات العرب قديماً، على مذهبه في كتاب "الأغاني" لأبي الفرج الأصفهاني، وقد كانت قبلاً على المذهب القديم، ليونس الكاتب وأصحابه، لا تخرج عن صنفين من التجنيسات، فجعل لها إسحاق مجريين هما نغمتا البنصر والوسطى، فما هو في مجرى البنصر فيختص بأصناف الجنس الأول (فيما نسميه الآن جنس "العجم")، وما هو في مجرى الوسطى فيختص بأصناف الجنس الأصلي الثاني، وهو ما نسميه جنس "الراست"، فأمكن بذلك أن يحيط بأصناف التجنيسات جملة. وقال أبو الفرج الأصفهاني إنه هو الذي صحح أجناس الغناء وطرائقه وميزه تمييزاً لم يقدر عليه أحد قبله ولا تعلق به أحد بعده.
