هذه هي المحاضرة الأولى في سلسلة المحاضرات السنوية التي تعقد في ذكرى الشيخ زكي بدوي، وفيها قدم الدكتور روان ويليامز رئيس أساقفة الكنيسة الإنجليكانية محاضرة قيمة وشديدة العمق حول التعددية، وهو موضوع يطرح الآن تحديات ملحة على أهل الديانات كلها على حد سواء.
بدأ الدكتور ويليامز محاضرته ببيان أن مصطلح التعددية يتداول كثيرًا هذه الأيام دون تفريق واضح بين مدلولاته المتعددة. ثم أعطى ثلاثة معاني لهذا المصطلح ودلالات هذه المعاني لكل من المسيحيين والمسلمين.
ثم ناقش الدكتور ويليامز المعنى الأول لتعددية الأديانن ولم يتردد في القول بأن هناك خلافًا حتميًا، وحوارًا لا مفر منه، ومفاوضات، وتجاذبًا بين أعضاء الأسرة الإبراهيمية، وصرح بأننا جميعًا يجب أن نشكك في نوايا الذين يدعون أن الخلاف بين أتباع الأديان يمكن أن ينتهي فجأة بانتماء الجميع إلى عقيدة واحدة مشوهة وغامضة.
ومن خلال حديثه عن المعنى الثاني للتعددية أي "تعامل النظام الاجتماعي والقانوني مع جاليات دينية متنوعة"، طرح الدكتور ويليامز رؤية أخلاقية واضحة ومطلوبة جدًا في مسألة الولاء، وهي مسألة- كما أشار- يساء فهمها بشكل كبير في هذه الأيام، ووصل إلى نتيجة ذات دلالة، وهي أنه لا بد للولاء للمجتمع الذي نعيش فيه من أن يؤول ويتطور ويمتحن من خلال ولائنا المبدئي لله، عندها نصبح أمثلة تحتذى للمواطنة المسؤولة دينيًا.
والمعنى الثالث الذي تطرق إليه الدكتور ويليامز لكلمة التعددية هو، في سياقها السياسي، ما كان ضد الهرمية والمركزية في النظام الاجتماعي ويتحدى الرؤية القمعية. ويعطي تحليل الدكتور ويليامز، الدقيق والمهم، لمفهوم التعددية رؤية عميقة للمخلصين من أتباع الديانتين المسيحية والإسلام.
