لم يرغب أبداً الشاعر الإسباني الكبير ليوبولدو ماريّا بانيرو (1948- 2014) في أن يُلصَق به لقب "الشاعر الملعون"، لم ترق له هذه الشخصية التي أرادوا سجنه فيها، رغم إعجابه بأحد كبار الشعراء الملعونين "ستيفان مالارميه"، حيث ذكر في أحد الحوارات معه أنه تقنيا مثل مالارميه وباوند وأنه لا يؤمن بالإلهام، فالقصائد تأتي من قصائد أخرى ومن شعراء آخرين، ورأى الكتابة كلها عبارة عن وسخ.
على الرغم من هذا ومن معاناته النفسية طوال معظم سنوات حياته وتنقله بين العديد من المصحات النفسية منذ حقبة السبعينيات، فقد أنتج عشرات الكتب بين الشعر والسرد والترجمة والمقال.
كتب عنه صديقه الشاعر الإسباني الكبير الآخر آنخل جيندا (1948) كتاباً بعنوان "ليوبولدو ماريا بانيرو: خطورة العيش من جديد"، صدر عام 2015، وقد استلهم آنخل عنوان كتابه من قصيدة لبانيرو الذي لم يحظ بأي إعتراف على المستوى الرسمي، كما يذكر آنخل جيندا والذي يؤكد على أن بانيرو لم يكن بحاجة إلى مثل هذا النوع من الإعتراف.
