من المسلم به أن كتابة التاريخ الإسلامي قد عانت كثيرا من التشوية والمغالطات، وخطأ التفسير بقصد أو بجهل بالأصول والمصادر.
ومن هنا كانت مهمة المؤرخ المسلم ان يجلي الحقائق، وان يصحح الخطاء وان يطبق الأسس الصحيحة في كتابة التاريخ الإسلامي، وأن يتصدى بموضوعية ومنهجية لمحاولات التشوية، وان يدعم ما يدون بالأدلة والحقائق. وأن هدف هذه الدراسة: علم التاريخ دراسة في مناهج البحث، أن يؤصل علم التاريخ، وأن يوضح جهود الإنسان في تدوينه مع التركيز على دور العلماء المسلمين في وضع منهجية علمية لكتابة التاريخ.
وإذا كان المستشرقون قد قاموا بدور ملموس منذ مطلع العصور الحديثة في دراسة التاريخ الإسلامي، والاهتمام بمصادر المخطوطة وتحقيق الكثير منها، فقد بات محتما على المؤرخين المسلمين ان يقوموا بمسئولياتهم كاملة خاصة وقد أدى الرعيل الول من مؤخى الاسلام المحدثين واجبهم كاملا مما تحفل به مكتبات العالم.
