كثيرة هي ملاحم الحب والحرب في تاريخ الأدب العربي ولكن أن تُكتب ملحمة أثناء الحجر هو الجديد في الرواية العربية اليوم. فقيمة التحديد الزمني في الرواية، يعد مؤشراً مهماً على وقوع الحدث سواء كان حقيقياً أو تخيلياً، وهو نفسه زمن أحداث هذه الرواية، والزمن الذي يختاره الكاتب جاسم سلمان في روايته "كورونا.. الحب والحرب" يرتبط بدلالة معينة هي المرض "وباء كورونا" ولهذا أضاف الكاتب عنواناً فرعياً (ملحمةٌ كُتبت أثناء الحجر)، ويبدو أن فكرة الكتابة عن زمن المرض وما رافقه من تغيرات وتحولات على مستوى العالم والأفراد، بما فيها تعرية المظاهر المصطنعة والنفاق الاجتماعي والأساليب الملتوية في مجتمع المال والأعمال والإعلام، هو الموضوع الأثير الذي تثيره هذه الرواية. "كورونا.. الحب والحرب" نص في ماهية الحب أو هي قصة عاشقان جمعهما الحب وفرقهما المرض، "جبران" المراسل الصحفي الملتزم بقضايا إنسانية والذي يذوق كل يوم الموت، بطعم مختلف، ونكهة مختلفة، و"ليلى" الفتاة الواعية التي أحبت جبران حباً صامتاً، وترى فيه الأمل والحياة والمستقبل. "هو" يحبها حب الشعراء، أو حب النزوات والامتلاك على طريقة الرومانسيين، و"هي" تفكر مثل بقية الفتيات بأن نهاية كل علاقة في الزواج. تنتظره خمس سنوات ثم تتركه وتتزوج من صاحب نفوذ شيطان في وجه إنسان. وعندما يعود العاشقان من غفلتهما يكون المرض لهما بالمرصاد. ولعل ذلك كان بداية النهاية أو نهاية البداية لقصة حب لم تكتمل، كان وباء كورونا هو الشاهد عليها... ومن هنا تبدأ مأساة كورونا في الحب والحرب.
ويبقى السؤال الذي تطرحه الرواية: هل سيغلب الحب الحرب والمرض؟ أم أن كورونا حرب جديدة، تضاف إلى سلسلة الهزائم؟!...
