صمم هذا المعجم الفريد لتيسير التعرف العلمي والسريع والدقيق على المعادن والصخور والحفريات، ويقع فى ثلاثة أقسام.
قسم المعادن: يتناول فى مدخلة البلورات والنظم البلوبية، ثم يشرح الخواص الطبيعية والضوئية والكيميائية الفاعلة كخواص مميزة، في 220 وصفا معدنيا.
قسم الصخور: كمدخل، ثم تناول الأقسام الثلاثة العظمى للصخور، مع شرح أصولها ونشاتها ثم إبراز المميزات فى 90 نوعاً من الصخور، بهدف تسهيل الدراسة المقارنة للعينات. كما وصفت عينات من النيازك. قسم الحفريات: توضح مقدمة هذا القسم ماهية الحفريات وكيفية تكونها، ثم تصنيفاتها وأهميتها لعلم الجيولوجيا.
وفي هذا، وصف قرابة 300 حفرية عالمية، قدمت فى مجاميع عظمى منفصلة.
وقد زود كل قسم بالرسوم البيانية والتوضيحية لتفسير معانى المصطلحات الفنية والتقنية، وتبيان مضامينها.
