ابتدأ الليل يرخى سدوله على القاهرة، وأنا فى طريقى من الجيزة آتيا من سكة الأهرام، ومع من؟، ستعرف بعد قليل، ولعلعت فى القضاء وقتئذ أصوات شاويشية قلم المرور تلقى الأوامر: ولع فانوس ورا.. اليمين مطفى ليه؟، اركن يمينك وولع النور يا عربجى، ودخلنا شارع سليمان باشا وسطعت أنوار الكلوبات ومررنا على كافيه ريش وليس بها كرسى لجالس وبالاختصار كأنما صدر الأمر لجنود الليل من شيطانهم الخفى بأبتداء المعركة الليلية بمهماتها وأدواتها، لقد كنت راجعاً من طريق الاهرام كما قلت لك بعد فسحة طويلة ومعى بعربتى "فرد" ولكنه بمقام ألف، سيدة يظهر عليها النبل كما يتبين من خلف نقابها آية الجمال، معها ولديها، طفل وطفلة "فوق روس بعض" ترى وجهها الابيض من خلف ملاءة وقفاز وشراب وحذاء سود كما يتجلى لك البدر بين السحب، وأقفتنى أمام محطة المترو وتأملتها طويلاً قبل أن تركب وأنا أرفع الكبوت، لقد رفعته فى ثلاث دقائق أو أكثر أيها القارئ، يد ترفعه وعيناى إليها، تنظر إلى هذا التركيب الذى لا يمكن أن تخرجه إلا أجزاخانة المولى القدير، وبالاختصار كما كلعبتى ولفتت نظرى فأنها جعلت عربتى فى سكة الأهرام كمقام أحد الأولياء يكثر اللف والدوران حواليه للتبرك والمشاهدة.
