النبات هو مفتاح الحياة على الأرض، فلقد وجد قبل الإنسان بمئات ملايين السنين، كما أنه يمدنا بالغذاء والآلاف من الأشياء المفيدة الأخرى، وأهم شيء الأوكسوجين اللازم للتنفس من أجل إستمرار الحياة لنا نحن وباقي الكائنات الحية، لذلك استحق اليوم أن يكون علم النبات إختصاصاً علمياً له مناهجه وأصوله ومختبراته.
ونحن هنا، نختص بالحديث عن زهور ونباتات الزينة المنزلية، ولما كان النبات كائناً حياً يحسّ بالعوامل البيئة التي حوله كالنور والظلام والحرارة والجفاف والرطوبة بالإضافة لإختلاف أنواعه فيما تتطلبه من هذه العوامل البيئية، فإن التوفيق بين إحتياجات النبات وطبيعة الموقع الذي نخصصه له داخل المنزل يعتبر أمراً في غاية الأهمية لضمان المحافظة على النبات، وعدم تعرضه للمخاطر.
كما أننا لم نغفل ذكر الطرق السهلة لإكثار نباتات الزينة المنزلية والأمراض التي قد تصيبها وطرق الوقاية منها بالوسائل المتيسرة في المنزل بعد أن أصبحت نباتات الزينة المنزلية عاملاً هاماً من عوامل التجميل وركن أساسياً للديكور الحديث، وأخيراً فإن العلاقة بين الإنسان ونباتات الزينة علاقة قديمة ووطيدة فهو يتأثر بها ويؤثر فيها.
