يأتي هذا الكتاب محاولة لسدّ بعض الثغرات في المراجع العربيّة حول بعض تيارات وفناني الحداثة، وما بعدها، مع إطلالة على أحد منابع هذه التيارات للقول أنّ العمليّة، أو اللعبة الفنيّة، هي سلسلة متواصلة لا تنفصم عراها، بل أنّ الفنّ هو تواصل بين محطاته وإستراحاته التي يحياها من وقت لآخر بغية التجديد، محاولة منه للبحث عن أجوبة وجودية لطالما أرّقت الإنسان الفنّان عبر عصور عطاءاته.
تعدّدت التيارات والأساليب وأعمال الفنانين التي قلبت المفاهيم وأثارت النقاشات والجدل وسوء الفهم.
يبقى من الضروريّ الإطلاع عليها لمقاربتها وفهمها دون مواقف مُسبقة، والسبيل إلى ذلك يكون عبر تناول الخلاقين الأساسين لهذه التيارات كما حاولت هذه الصفحات أن تُظهرها.
