Under the patronage of president saddam hussein, president of the republic of iraq, Mr. Tareq aziz, member of the revolutionary command councilblic vice-prime minister, inaugurated the internationl conference on the principles of non-alignment wich was organized by the international progress organization, a non-governmental organization in consultative status with united nations and unesco, in baghdad (4-6 May 1982).
the Ipo had organized this conference in light of the fact that the movement of the non-aligned countries represents the conscience of the world, strives to re-formulate its political, economic and cultural strictures in a novel and creative fashion that respects the will and basic rights of individuals, and guarantees the freedom and national sovereignty of peoples as they participants marked their awareness that the non-aligned countries struggle for the security, stablity and peace of all peoples.
prominent personalities from different parts of the world participated in the discussion of working papers that dealt with the concepts of independence and sovereignty, the principles of the non-aligned movement, the general basis for co-operation and friendship berween countries, and the contribution of the non-aligned movement in this field.
