في كتاب هو أقرب للسيرة، يسرد لنا (برنار پیشو) أقاصي وذكريات وأسرارا عن مهنته كمقدم برنامج ثقافي طيلة خمسة عشر عاما، في سبعمئة حلقة تلفزيونية، حاور فيها الآلاف من المشاهير، و فرا من الكتب ما يفوق قدرة أي قاري، ليقدمها في اعترافاته هنا بين دفتي هذا الكتاب، في واحدة من حلقات المجلة التليفزيونية الثقافية (أبوستروف)، ينزع المقدم الفرنسي (برنار پیشر)، ربطة عنقه ويقدمها لضيفه الروائي البريطاني (جون لو کاریه) في مشهد محير. فقد كان پیشو قد دعي إلى بريطانيا لتكريمه بجائزة الاستحقاق الأدبي) بالتزامن مع منح جائزة (مالابارت) إلى کاریه. في الحفل الرسمي سيرتقي پیفو المنصة لإلقاء كلمته، لكنه يتنبه إلى أنه لم يكن يضع ربطة عنق، فيرتجل كلمة يبدؤها بالاعتذار عن هندامه. يروي پيشو أنه كان يلح لخمس سنوات على كاريه لاستضافته في برنامجه الفرنسي، لكن الأخير كان يتهرب، أثناء إلقاء الكلمة نهض کاریه ثم خلع ربطته وسلمها إلى پیشو ليخلصه من حرجه. في عرض الحلقة بباريس، يخلع پیفو الربطة إياها، ويعيدها إلى صاحبها. يكتب أيضا عن استضافته للنجمة الأمريكية (جين فوندا)، يظهر وهي يوليها الكثير من الإعجاب، يعترف بحبه لها "من أول نظرة"، ثم يعتذر لقائه بأن تمییزه لها بذلك الاهتمام "الغرامي"، كان خروجة معيبة على السلوك المهني. حلقة أخرى عن فلاديمير نابوكوف وكيف خدع الجمهور بأنه يجيب عن أسئلته شفوية بينما كان يخفي الأجوبة المعدة سلفا. كان پیشو يسأله: "المزيد من الشاي سيد نابوكوف؟"، ذلك أنه اشترط أن يشرب أثناء المحاورة من ويسكي أخفي له في إبريق شايا
