ومع كون علم الإقتصاد القائم الآن على مجموعة نظريات ما هو في الحقيقة إلا نتيجة للتراكم المعرفي عبر العصور المتتالية، ومساهمة مختلف الحضارات الإنسانية فيه إلا أن المتتبع للكتابات والأبحاث الإقتصادية يلحظ إجحافاً في حق الفكر الإقتصادي الإسلامي والمفكرين والفقها والعلماء المسلمين، والذين أولوا الجانب الإقتصادي إهتماماً في دراساتهم سواء بشكل مسقل أو كجزء لا يتجزأ من أبحاثهم الفقهية والإجتماعية.

والجدير بالذكر أن الدراسات التي تناولت المجال الإقتصادي ركزت على كتب الفقه والخراج والأموال وقلما اهتمت بكتب التأريخ التي وردت فيها نصوص كثيرة تصف الحياة الإقتصادية للمجتمعات الإسلامية.

تعنى هذه الأطروحة الموسومة بــ ((الحياة الإقتصادية في مصر من خلال كتاب الخطط للمقريزي من منتصف القرن الرابع للهجرة حتى منتصف القرن التاسع للهجرة))، التي لا تقل أهميةً عن الكتب التي أولى مؤلفوها عنايتهم بالجوانب الإقتصادية بدراسة الحياة الإقتصادية في مصر من خلال معطيات كتاب الخطط للمقريزي.
