أصبح مصطلح "العَولَمة" بصيغتّيْه الإنكليزية globalisation والفرنسية mondialisation منذ حوالي عشرين سنة من العناصر الرئيسية في المُعجم الإقتصاديّ والسياسيّ، وفي مفردات العلوم الإنسانيّة والإجتماعيّة، إلاّ أنّ استخدام هاتّين المفردتّين لا يخلو في معظم الأحيان من الغموض.
وما نسعى إلى وصفه هنا وتحليله هو هذه العمليّة المتمثّلة بعّولمة التخصّصات المختلفة في العلوم الإجتماعيّة، إذ كيف يُمكن لهذه التخصّصات أن تدرس العَولَمة في كلّ أبعدها وفي كلّ مفاعيلها، إذا لم تُحسن في الوقت ذاته التفكير بعَولمتها هي بالذات.
