هذا الكتاب هو محاولة للتشبث بحبال الأمل، هو رسالة مفتوحة لشاب مصري ربما يكون ذات يوم رئيسًا لمصر بعد أن نجح المصريون في كسر طبيعة العلاقة بين الحاكم والمحكوم في الخامس والعشرين من يناير 2011م وأكدوا ذلك بما لا يدع مجالًا للشك في نيتهم للتغيير في الثلاثين من يونيو 2013م.
ليس الانشغال بالشأن المصري مقتصرًا على الباحثين السياسيين، وليس كل حديث في شأن مصر هو حديث سياسة، وليست السياسة شأنًا قاصرًا على فئة بعينها وليست هي الحكم فقط، الشأن المصري هو المجال الذي يحق لكل مصري - بل يجب عليه - أن يهتم به، كل واحد من زاوية نظره وبخبراته المختلفة.
في هذا الكتاب، "واحد مصري"، وهي صفة تثير الفخر في جنبات روحي، ولكنها كذلك تثير بداخلي غيرة على حال المصريين الذين يستحقون الأفضل. نحن نستحق الأفضل، وهذ الكتاب إنما هو ممارسة لواجبي وحقي في الاهتمام بالشأن المصري سعيًا وراء هذا الأفضل.
وسوف أترك التواضع جانبًا لأقول إن ما تضمه دفتي هذا الكتاب هو أفكار لا تموت، ولا تسقط بالتقادم، ولا تنتهي بانتهاء الحدث الذي أثارها، هي صحيح شحنات عاطفية قد يصفها البعض بالانطباع، ولكن من قال إن الانطباع عيب طالما هو خارج عن خبرة ودراية وراءهما اجتهاد في الفهم والتحصيل، وقبل كل ذلك نية صادقة.
